Md. Atik Yeasir Alam
Bridging Architecture and Environmental Management for a Sustainable Future
I am Md. Atik Yeasir Alam, an architect with a passion for sustainable design and a commitment to environmental stewardship. Having graduated from the esteemed Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Fall 2019, with a degree in Architecture, I embarked on a journey that has seen me evolve from a fresh graduate to a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in the field. This article aims to shed light on my academic and professional journey, showcasing how I've seamlessly integrated architecture and environmental management for the betterment of our built environment.
Academic Pursuits:
In Spring 2017, I undertook a transformative thesis project titled “Sanmar Housing – A Sustainable Housing Development for Higher Income Groups". This project not only marked a significant milestone in my academic journey but also ignited a passion for sustainable design solutions tailored to meet the needs of diverse socioeconomic groups. It was during this project that I realized the immense potential for architects to influence positive change through sustainable design practices.
Professional Odyssey:
Over the past seven years, I have had the privilege of contributing my expertise to three distinguished architectural consultancy firms and a prominent real estate development company. This diverse professional background has exposed me to a wide array of projects, ranging from residential complexes to commercial spaces. Through these experiences, I have honed my skills in conceptualizing and executing designs that seamlessly blend aesthetic appeal with functional efficiency.
The Fusion of Architecture and Environmental Management:
Recognizing the crucial intersection of architecture and environmental management, I embarked on a new academic journey, pursuing a Master's degree in Environment Management at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). Through rigorous coursework and hands-on projects, I have delved deep into the intricacies of environmental policies, sustainable practices, and ecological conservation. This academic pursuit has enriched my understanding of the holistic impact of architectural decisions on our environment.
Why Environment Management?
Choosing to pursue a higher degree in Environment Management was a natural progression for me. It provides a complementary framework to my architectural background, equipping me with the tools to create designs that not only enhance human well-being but also minimize environmental impact. This synergistic approach allows me to craft spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also ecologically responsible.
Looking Forward:
As I continue my academic journey at IUB, I am eager to apply the insights gained from my coursework to real-world architectural projects. My goal is to champion sustainable design practices within the architectural community, advocating for a built environment that harmoniously coexists with nature. Through my endeavors, I aim to inspire fellow architects, developers, and stakeholders to embrace environmentally conscious design principles.
